This Is What I Have Learned Episode 7 (FINAL EPISODE)
Good morning Fam,
1. In 2018, I really did burn some bridges and I am glad I did. Those bridge-burning experiences taught me that:
- My job is not to lift everybody up.
- My job is to live your own life.
- I am not a shadow.
- As I have always said, "when people show you who they are, believe them the first time"
2. Practice your values, don't just profess them. This bugs me a bit because I know there are so many who cut corners and are still thriving. I mean, there are successful. The real question then for me is, why do I need to practice my values. Anyway, I want to believe that there has to be some consequence to cheating and being "fast". Maybe I am naive but at least I know there are other people who share my school of thought. People like Khaled Hosseini author of The Kite Runner. Here is a line from the novel I believe and agree with.
3. Speaking of books, I know The Kite Runner is one of the most important books you will read in your life. Reading the kite runner reminded me of what Chimamanda Adichie once said,
5. Find your tribe. These people get you. Nothing surprises them. I am saying this because a lot of people tell me I am doing too much, working too hard, yada yada yada. Basically, they don't get it and they are trying to insert their lives into mine. But as I said, my tribe members are not surprised by my work ethic because they work really hard too. Even though we have different visions, our values are very similar.
6. Listening to Lisa Nichols' 10 rules for success made all the difference this morning. There's a guy on YouTube called Evan Carmichael who curates motivational videos and they are just amazing. one of the ways to silence negative self-talk is to watch these kinds of videos.
7. Finally, I would just say that life is short and art is long. I just came across Chimamanda's Danger of a Single Story and 9 years later, her words still ring true.

"When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness"

stories matter...stories can also be used to empower, and to humanize4. Be wary of those you share your dreams with. Not just your dreams, but your life generally. Bad words can poison you. Keep everything under your hat.
