THEODORE ROOSEVELT AND MICHELLE OBAMA ON HANDLING CRITICISM






Becoming Michelle Obama is such a well-written book and I highly recommend. 
There is a quote from the book about handling doubters which I think everyone needs to keep in mind: 

  
"I’ve been lucky enough now in my life to meet all sorts of extraordinary and accomplished people—world leaders, inventors, musicians, astronauts, athletes, professors, entrepreneurs, artists and writers, pioneering doctors and researchers. Some (though not enough) of them are women. Some (though not enough) are black or of color. Some were born poor or have lived lives that too many of us would appear to have been unfairly heaped with adversity, and yet still they seem to operate as if they’ve had every advantage in the world. What I’ve learned is this: All of them have had doubters. Some continue to have roaring stadium-sized collections of critics and naysayers who will shout  I told you so at every little misstep or mistake. The noise doesn’t go away, but the most successful people I know have figured out how to live with it."

This is very powerful. 


This is just a little reminder that you should not let other people determine the pace of your life. 
There is another quote by Theodore Roosevelt that points to this same idea:

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs; who comes short again and again...who at the best knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly..."
